The experience
The road is part of the experience too.
The trip begins in El Calafate and follows National Route 40 beside Lake Argentino and across the Santa Cruz and La Leona rivers. The outbound journey is approximately 220 km and usually takes around three hours, depending on road, weather and stops.
La Leona roadhouse may be part of the journey. Coffee or food can be purchased there at your own expense; refreshments are not included.

A flexible day

The road toward the Andes
After La Leona, the road follows Lake Viedma. Before entering the village, a stop may be made at the Fitz Roy viewpoint if visibility, access and timing allow.

A relaxed base in El Chaltén
The standard option prioritises time to explore the village and choose a gentle activity, such as the Interpretation Centre, historic centre, riverfront or a walk toward Chorrillo del Salto. Specific activities are arranged according to the day; they do not always all fit into one visit.
- 03
Independent trails
Laguna Capri and Laguna de los Tres are self-guided hikes, subject to weather, season and physical fitness. They may require a different schedule or plan and are not included in the relaxed itinerary.
